The Carillon family has been producing wine in Puligny-Montrachet, Burgundy, since the 16th century, with a logo derived from an engraved stone discovered in 1632 in a local cave. Carillon wines have long been regarded as among the finest white wines of Burgundy, celebrated for their high quality by critics and prestigious restaurants. Domaine Carillon specializes in white wines that are vibrant, elegant, and fruity, showcasing the distinct characteristics of the Chardonnay grape from this region.
The wine made from 100% Pinot Noir comes from La Combe Danay in Monthélie. Located between Volnay and Meursault and facing the Côte de Beaune's hills, Monthélie is reminiscent of a Tuscan village, as described by Burgundian author Pierre Poupon. The Monthélie red wine features a handsome ruby color with aromas of small red and black fruits like cherry and blackcurrant, and sometimes floral hints of violet and peony. As it ages, the wine develops notes of underbrush, bracken, and spices. With its firm yet velvety texture and delicate tannins, Monthélie is often described as a feminine wine, similar to those from Volnay.
