In 1974, Jean-Claude Rouzaud embarked on the creation of the Cristal Rosé cuvée, nearly two centuries after the founding of Louis Roederer's Champagne house and a century post the inception of Cristal. With meticulous care, he selected aged pinot noir grapes from Aÿ's premier grand cru vineyards, utilizing massale selection methods to propagate from the most thriving vines. These vineyards, boasting limestone bedrock and distinctive calcareous clay soil, nurture unparalleled fruit maturity in exceptional years, alongside a pure and crystalline acidity emblematic of the Cristal style. Today, these vineyards adhere to biodynamic principles in their management.
In terms of appearance, the wine displays a salmon pink tint with subtle golden undertones, maintaining a consistently delicate effervescence. The bouquet offers a poised and elegantly complex aroma, enticing exploration with its intertwining scents that gradually unfold, revealing nuances of citrus peel, yuzu, forest fruits, mandarin, raspberry, and wild strawberry, transitioning to roasted tones, almonds, and finally, fresh herbal fragrances of verbena and bergamot. On the palate, it delivers a lively character energized by refined effervescence and delicate bubbles, softening its fruity essence and texture, resulting in a tranquil yet invigorating experience, culminating in a prolonged and enticing finish. Throughout the tasting journey, the wine's finesse harmoniously blends with its robust structure, embodying the youthful vigor and graceful elegance reminiscent of a Degas ballerina.
