Schramsberg's 2001 Reserve Late Disgorged sparkling wine is a testament to the winery's dedication to crafting exceptional sparkling wines. As the top Pinot Noir-focused brut in their portfolio, this offering exemplifies meticulous care and craftsmanship. Originally aged on the yeast for five years, this limited release spent an additional 11 years resting in the historic Diamond Mountain caves, resulting in a sparkling wine rich with toasty, caramelized complexity.
Sourced from more than 120 cool-climate vineyards across Carneros, Anderson Valley, and Sonoma and Marin coastal regions, this primarily Pinot Noir blend is elevated with a touch of Chardonnay for added structure and length. Traditional methods, including hand-picking, light pressing, and barrel fermentation, contribute to its layered depth.
The wine greets the nose with rich aromas of baked apple, berry cobbler, orange zest, and dried apricot, accented by cinnamon, nutmeg, and honey. The palate is equally complex, with flavors of apple tart, grapefruit, peach, candied ginger, and roasted almond. A vibrant acidity ties everything together, culminating in a fresh and textured finish. This late disgorged masterpiece is an extraordinary expression of Schramsberg's enduring pursuit of excellence.
